Does MobiMatter Work in China?

It depends on the plan. MobiMatter says Google, WhatsApp and Instagram usually work without a VPN on plans that route data outside the mainland, and not on plans that use a local Chinese connection. Most of its China plans list Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore or UK routing. Find Your eSIM says a Three Hong Kong eSIM bought through MobiMatter got past the firewall in the author's tests in China.

MobiMatter is a marketplace. On October 9, 2026 it listed 75 plans that cover China from 7 suppliers. These are TSimTech, NextLink, RoamVault, 3 (Three Hong Kong), Airalo, Sparks and Ubigi. Each plan page names its network in China, which is China Mobile, China Unicom or China Telecom.

Not on every plan. Find Your eSIM says TikTok and AI apps probably won't work on Hong Kong routing, because those companies block Hong Kong themselves. Notes from China says TikTok works normally on eSIMs that exit through Singapore or another location outside Hong Kong.

MobiMatter follows the policies of the operator whose plan you buy. You can cancel only before the eSIM is downloaded or activated, and the operator's fees apply. After that, MobiMatter gives a full or partial refund only if the service fails because of a fault and isn't fixed within 24 hours of you reporting it. Partly used plans and slow network speeds don't qualify, though MobiMatter says many operators are more lenient in practice.
